Liverpool Fans Are Signing Petitions For Divock Origi To Be Given An Anfield Statue

Liverpool fans are signing petitions to get a statue of Divock Origi outside Anfield and it shows how much he's loved.

Origi has become a cult hero at Anfield after the slew of important goals he has scored over the last year.

Fan support for the Belgian has grown over the year and he's one of the most clutch players in world football right now.

It's now culminated in Liverpool fans signing petitions to get the 24-year-old permanently immortalised outside the ground with a statue.

One of the petitions was created after the infamous Barcelona comeback which saw Origi score two in a 4-0 win and that has nearly 500 signatures.

The second one is slowly ticking away but is still into triple digits and stands at 110 at time of writing.

This one is also captioned with: "He's the GOAT, he deserves one for the match saving goals he's got."

Origi's reemergence with two goals on Wednesday has reignited 'Origimania' with fans on Twitter wanting a statue similar to club icon Bill Shankly.

A thread titled 'Divock Origi: The Hits' went viral yesterday to show how revered the Belgian is at Anfield now.

Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has also jumped on the Origi hype train.

He joked that he would name his child Divock this summer and replied to the thread humorously saying he'll change his son's name.

His Liverpool career was petering out this time last year and summer 2018 saw rumours that Origi was set to leave, with Wolves and Huddersfield interested.

But the former Lille man spoke out about his chance to leave and he said his 'gut feeling' told him to stay at Liverpool.

"I just sat down and I felt like I wanted to stay and help this team," he said per BBC Sport.

"I felt good, I just had to keep performing in training and I knew my chance would come. I felt like we could do something special.

"I just had to block everything out on the outside and focus on the right things. In football you never know 100%, it could have gone another way as well but that's the choice I made."

If he helps Liverpool win their first ever Premier League title this season then Origi will further his cult hero status at Anfield.
