After the interception, the truck and its occupants were moved to the office of the taskforce in Oshodi for interrogation.

According to the chairman of Lagos State Taskforce, Yinka Egbeyemi, some of the men said they came to Lagos in search of greener pastures.

Egbeyemi said that the Lagos Police Command had directed that a fact-finding panel be constituted to profile the detained occupants of the truck, but he added that nothing incriminating was found on them apart from the motorcycles.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Ikhana, who spoke with Daily Trust after their release said after profiling of the men, nothing incriminating was found on them.

He said the suspicion and subsequent interception of the truck arose from the manner they came in, in large number sardined in a truck.

Former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Joe Abah, in a tweet on Saturday, criticised Lagos authorities over the interception.

Leah Sharibu Still Alive, FG Negotiating Release — Presidency

The Presidency has dismissed speculation that Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi schoolgirl still held by Boko Haram, is dead.

It said Miss Sharibu was alive, while the Federal Government continue to negotiate her release from the captivity of the terrorist group.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, gave an update on Sharibu in a statement he issued on Saturday in Abuja.

Shehu assured Nigerians that the government would not give up Sharibu, a Christian, who was denied freedom by the terrorist group because of her faith.

He stated, ‘‘Instead of giving up, the government is carrying forward processes that should hopefully yield her release by her captors.”

Stressing that she was alive, Shehu added, “Lines of communications remain open with the kidnappers, ISWAP, to secure the release of Leah Sharibu.

‘‘Contrary to false reports, she is alive – given assurances from our security agencies- and the government is committed to her safe return, as well as all other hostages to their families.

“Kidnapping for ransom should never be encouraged. This means not capitulating to the demands of terrorists: refrain from rewarding their heinous crimes with payment.

“With the abduction of loved family (members) and friends, the government understands how difficult these times are for them, but government is pursuing many options to ensure the safe return of Leah Sharibu.

“We must commit to law and communication, using the breadth of strategies at our disposal: legal initiatives, stakeholder cooperation, involvement of all relevant parties and the use of the latest hostage negotiation techniques.

‘‘Kidnapping for ransom is rising across the Sahel. We must – collectively – make sure we implement best practice to prevent its exploitation.”

He called for patience to allow the government’s efforts to come to fruition.

Mosque Demolition: Senator Shekarau Condemns Governor Wike

Former Governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau, has condemned in a strong terms Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike over demolishing of Rainbow Town Central Mosque located at the Trans-Amadi Area of Port Harcourt.

Shekarau in a statement signed by his media aide, Sule Ya’u Sule, said Nigeria belongs to all, and no state in Nigeria could claim to be mono religious, lamenting that “it only takes a responsible leadership to carry everybody along.”

The former governor, who is now Senator representing Kano central, said Governor Wike’s action was a pointer to him being induced by other than rationale brain waves, as no leader in his right senses would contemplate stoking such embers of discord in a country so religiously, ethnically and regionally charged as Nigeria.

He said, “Wike’s claim that Rivers is a Christian State is pathological. It suggests that not only are the people of Rivers State 100 per cent Christians, but Muslims and adherents of other religions from other parts of Nigeria cannot make Rivers State their home. It also insinuates that Rivers State operates a government, a constitution of its own, different from the Nigerian Nation.”

“It means Rivers State does not recognize or protect the interests of people like Alabo Mujahid Dokubo Asari, Alhaji Isa Boaima, Alhaji Sani Okiri, Alhaji Ahmed Sani Pe, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Pepple, Alhaji Suleiman Akani, Alhaji Ibrahim Orlu, Alhaji Musa Brown, Chief Hassan Douglas and Alhaji Mustapha Wakama who are all Muslims and productive citizens of Rivers State.”

Shekarau pointed out that this was not the first time Wike would show his reckless side in utterances and actions, recalling that last year, he threatened his own Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) hierarchy that they either hold the party’s convention in Port Harcourt or, as he vowed, risk his destroying the party.

In the mood of the celebration, Damilola Adegbite recalled the story of the little celebrant was born.

MY BABY IS 5!!! It seems just like yesterday. At “chuck e cheese” with some friends. Feeling so restless and uncomfortable. Not knowing you were much closer than we expected. The unbearable pain birthing you. Those seconds we couldn’t hear your heart beat. The nurses tried to stay calm but I could tell they were worried. And then all of a sudden, the little thump thump of your heart filling the hospital room. Separated from you for days while you were in the ICU. Separated from you again during one of the most trying times of my life…. Truth is, maybe we didn’t get off on the greatest of starts. Motherhood is a journey. A learning process. It’s been 5 years and I don’t have it all figured out yet. But I promise to love and protect you. To fight for you, to be your pillar of strength and support. To walk closely by your side every single day. To bring you up in the way and doctrines of the Lord. You will grow up to be a fine man. You will be a bright light in your generation. A king amongst men. I decree and declare God’s blessings and favor on you every single day of your life. Mummy loves you so so much Brian. Happy birthday to you my Son❤️ “

INEC: We Used Electronic Transmission For 2019 Polls Results But…

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday said it electronically transmitted results of this year’s presidential election, but that it was a pilot scheme not yet backed by law.

INEC’s National Commissioner in charge of Kogi, Kwara and Nasarawa states, Malam Mohammed Haruna, who represented chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja at the public presentation of the YIAGA Africa Watching The Vote (WTV) General Elections Observation Report of the 2019 elections.

Malam Mohammed Haruna said: “The key word is pilot. We were piloting and you have to take that into consideration. In fact, it is not a done deal. We were testing to see whether eventually we would use electronic transmission. The clarification from YIAGA about the law that if the president had signed it, it would give us the legal backing to transmit electronically.

“The fact is that the bill that eventually went to Mr. President never even contained that, this is the fact. So, as I said, the important thing is that it was not a law and we are piloting it at state level, for even this presidential, it was just a pilot.

“Let us be very cautious about this electronic silver bullet, each package comes with its own problem. Adopt it today, it is going to have its own problems, hacking and so forth.

“We have to be very careful that once we adopt IT, all our problems would be solved,” Haruna, who said he also represented the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Festus Okoye, added.

Speaking earlier while responding to a question, YIAGA Africa Programs Manager and WTV Project Director, Ms. Cynthia Mbamalu, said the organisation designed its checklist using INEC’s guidelines.

“And one of the things we observed was that in Osun and Ekiti states INEC piloted the e-collation (electronics collation) and transmission of results using the smart card reader (SMC). And we have seen it recorded huge success in Ekiti and Osun. And informed by that knowledge, we had introduced a question on that to also track if that will be implemented in the elections,” she said.

Presenting the report, the chairman, Watching The Vote (WTV) Working Group of YIAGA AFRICA, Dr. Hussaini Abdu, said though INEC introduced reforms to deepen electoral integrity and citizens’ participation, the elections were characterized by many of the same shortcomings that marred previous national elections in Nigeria.

Lagos Assembly Probes Ambode Over Purchase Of 820 Buses At The Cost Of ₦45bn

The Lagos State House Assembly has set up a committee to investigate the purchase of 820 buses by the administration of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

The lawmakers said the governor did not get the approval to buy 820 of the 5,000 buses he proposed for mass transit in the state.

In a motion titled, ‘Lagos State House of Assembly Motion Number 2,’ the lawmaker representing Eti Osa Constituency 2, Gbolahan Yishawu, said the executive proposed to spend ₦17bn to purchase the buses in the 2017 budget, but it was not approved.

He added that in the 2018 and 2019 budgets, the state government proposed ₦24bn and ₦7bn respectively for the buses, which were again turned down.

Yishawu said the Ambode administration, however, went ahead to purchase the vehicles.

The lawmaker said the House was worried that 520 of the 820 buses were still awaiting clearance from the bonded warehouse and the port at the expense of taxpayers.

He suggested that an ad hoc committee be set up to investigate the cost of the buses and other issues surrounding the purchase to prevent a recurrence.

“The value of the buses is overrated. We need to prevent such an occurrence in the future”

“₦45 Billion would be spent on the total purchase of the buses and we need to prevent such an occurrence in the future.”

In his remarks, the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, said that the House must act urgently on the matter to prevent waste.

“The vehicles are in the ports and they have been there for almost a year. The state will continue to suffer if we allow the buses to stay in the ports”

“We should get the buses to the roads and save the state from further wastes,”

The House subsequently set up a committee headed by member representing Ibeju Lekki Constituency 1, Fatal Mojeed, to look into the matter and report to the House.

FBI Wanted List: Yahoo boys flee Nigeria to The Gambia, S/Africa, Ghana, Dubai

Days after the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, vowed to fish out Nigerians indicted in the recent United States wire scam, Saturday Sun has learnt that most of the young men with questionable source of living are currently on the run. While many have gone underground, those with the means have fled to some West African nations and even beyond the sub-region to evade arrest.

On August 22 , a 252-count federal grand jury indictment charged 77 Nigerians for alleged involvement in a massive conspiracy to steal millions of dollars through a variety of fraud schemes and launder same through a Los Angeles-based money laundering network uncovered by the FBI.

The indictment alleges that the defendants and others used various online fraud schemes – including business email compromise (BEC) frauds, romance scams, and schemes targeting the elderly – to defraud victims out of millions of dollars.

While two defendants were already in federal custody on other charges, a few others were arrested last week, with the remaining suspects believed to be abroad, most of them located in Nigeria. The Nigerian government has however promised to assist FBI in extraditing those indicted.

Saturday Sun gathered that several big-time ‘Yahoo boys’ operating in Nigeria have since fled the country for fear that the FBI-backed EFCC investigation might affect them. They were said to have moved to neighbouring West African countries, especially Ghana and Gambia. Others are in South Africa while those who still have clean records have chosen to stay in Dubai till further notice.

Celebrity nightclubs worst hit

Worst hit by the decision of the ‘Yahoo boys’ to go underground are some of the celebrity night clubs in Lagos, Abuja and Owerri in Imo State which are usually filled with young men ready to spend millions in a night. These are safe havens for some of these fraudsters who are willing to spend more than a million naira on a bottle of wine.

Lamenting the low patronage, an attendant in a top nightclub in Victoria Island who spoke with Saturday Sun lamented that sales has fallen since the FBI-EFCC manhunt began last week. “Before the news broke, we used to make at least N5million every Friday night. Last Friday was the worst since this club was established. We could barely make up to N500, 000. There is panic everywhere; we need these Yahoo boys who spend money carelessly. The same thing happened to our club in Owerri, everyone has gone into hiding. It’s even worse over there because majority of our customers are visitors who stormed Owerri for the weekend.”

Why we have gone underground

One of the suspected fraudsters popularly known as Big Daddy who insists that he has since retired told Saturday Sun that he decided to run to Dubai in case someone mistakenly mentioned his name. “It’s Obiwanne Okeke’s fault that things went bad for everybody. As soon as they caught him, he started running his mouth and he overdid it. What others were doing is to allow them to investigate your matter and then the rest will help you from outside. They would have contributed money and hire the best lawyer that will help free him or at worst reduce his sentence. So many of us now stuck in Nigeria have been arrested before and endured it till we were deported. Your resources will be protected. The truth is that America cannot jail you if they do not have concrete evidence against you and most importantly the quality of the lawyer that is helping out is very important. With the current situation that guys are in over there, no one is willing to help.”

On why he fled the country, Big Daddy said, “I was not involved in any of the issues they raised but I am an Imo boy and I know so many of them. We have done deals in the past and anything can happen. These boys out of desperation can mention anyone’s name. It’s better to stay away and monitor things from afar. I have a clean record that is why I decided to go to Dubai.”

An ex-convict, Okechukwu Madu who was recently deported to Nigeria after serving five years jail term in UK over internet fraud said that EFCC will take advantage of the FBI alert to arrest small-time players. “In Nigeria, if you know your game, EFCC will not arrest you. We have gotten information on the people that they are looking for and most of them are out already. If you hear that they caught anyone, it must be these small-time players. The big boys are the investors and most of them are spread across African countries; all they need is a computer and link to their accomplices.

“I am not afraid because I have served my term in UK before they deported me. Some of us were lucky that we invested in the country, which is why despite all the money that they took from us, we can still survive in this country. In fact, Nigerian government should be happy that we bring this money back to Nigeria, unlike some of them who prefer to buy houses and deposit our money in foreign countries. This matter will surely end one day, the secret is to try not to be caught.”

Another suspected fraudster based in Kenya, Cosmos Gee lamented that since the news broke last week, some of his friends have been unreachable. “My brother who stays in Germany told me that they are actually hiding, the town is hot for them. There is also panic in other African countries like Kenya, this is because some of these Nigerian men travelled with Kenyan passport. Kenyan government is not strict on Nigerians who come over there and seek to become citizens of the country.”

We’re on their trail – EFCC

Reacting to the development, a top official of EFCC said, “We’re on their trail. We’ve increased surveillance at all the country’s borders and have enlisted Interpol’s service. We will get these fraudsters and Yahoo boys because we have deployed different technologies. Abuja and Lagos are under heavy surveillance.

“We’re also in the South South because we believe anywhere you have higher institutions is a natural hub for Yahoo business. We’ve spread dragnets everywhere. The entire country is under surveillance. Raids are coming, but they would be covert. If they like, they should run to anywhere in the world, in due course, we will get them.”

Also speaking, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said, “the Commission is not aware of any escape of suspected fraudsters from the country. The EFCC more than ever before is resolute in its determination to wipe out all vestiges of scam, be they advance fee fraud or cyber crime. The Commission has the capacity to track and smoke out any Internet fraudster within Nigeria’s borders. We also have partnerships with international law enforcement organisations including the Interpol. Escape from Nigeria is no guarantee of freedom from justice.”

A suspected internet fraudster wanted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was recently arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and paraded in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Sharu Isyaku, EFCC zonal head in Kwara, told reporters “the 36 years old suspect had benefitted about N60 million from the loot via Western Union transfer.”

He said: “Just last three weeks, the US authority had written to us for assistance in tracking and possible arrest and prosecution of two most wanted FBI suspects in Nigeria. The commission accedes to their request. The commission has been supportive of the activities of the FBI and every other foreign counterpart whose responsibility is similar or analogous to ours. ”

He further revealed that the commission had traced four properties linked to some cybercrime suspects in choice areas to Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The properties include a supermarket and plaza put in the region of between N800 million to one billion Naira. “Within seven months of our operation, the Ilorin zonal office has independently arrested over 58 suspected internet fraudsters, secured conviction of 25 and got forfeiture of their exotic cars and money running into millions of Naira to the Federal Government,” he said.

Juanito Pistola, 16-Year-Old Mexican Cartel Hitman Killed By Police

A 16-year-old alleged hitman had his head blown off in a gruesome shoot-out when he was dispatched with fellow gangsters to kill police in Mexico.
Juanito Pistola, also known as Commander Little, was inside a van with members of Hell's Troop on Tuesday when they were ordered to ambush police in the town of Nuevo Laredo, a smuggling gateway.
At around noon, Pistola and six others, armed with rifles and dressed in military fatigues, travelled in the van with Texas license plates and engaged the police in a gun battle close to the airport.
High calibre rounds tore through their bodies and pictures of the aftermath showed Pistola's head taken clean off and the blood-soaked corpses of his comrades.

Juanito Pistola's headless corpse lies upright beside the window, while other dead members of Hell's Troop are slumped across the back seats covered in blood after the shoot-out.
Another four members of Hell's Troop, a wing of the notorious Northeast Cartel (CDN), were killed in clashes with police in the town, Vanguardia reported.
Local media said that the vehicle Pistola died in had been used in an attack on the police several days before in a different part of the city.
According to reports, cartels often recruit minors to mainly work as drug smugglers and Pistola was once arrested by police in 2015.
Social media videos and narco-rap songs refer to Pistola as being a hitman in the ranks of the CDN since he was just 13.

The CDN, formerly Los Zetas, have controlled the town since 2004 when they took it from the Sinola cartel in a bloody turf war which claimed at least 2,000 lives.

‘U.S. Tourists Pay $270 For Nigerian Visa, Not $180’

There are indications that the row between Nigeria and the U.S. over visa fee charges might escalate despite the Federal Government’s directive to the Nigerian embassy in the U.S. to reduce the visa fee to $160.

Findings showed that the directive was yet to be implemented as of yesterday, as U.S. tourists still paid as much $270 as visa fee.

A Nigerian whose family just returned to Port Harcourt from the United States told The Guardian that contrary to the Nigerian embassy’s claim on its website that visa processing fee is $180, citizens of United States, including Nigerian citizens who naturalised but could not renew their passports due to scarcity of booklets were usually asked to pay as much as $270.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, explained that himself, his wife and children who were born in the U.S. but live in Port Harcourt, had travelled to the U.S. in June this year after waiting several months to no avail for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to issue them their renewed Nigerian passports.

He narrated that the NIS had promised to courier the booklets to him once they were ready. He stated that having waited till early this month to no avail, he decided to apply for a Nigerian visa for the children to enable them re-enter Nigeria where they currently school.

“On the website, the visa fee is $180. This is in addition to $31 for self-addressed envelop, which is normal because they must post your visa to you at your own cost. But after we went through the whole process, they saw our documents and then demanded for $90 extra. Beside us, another Nigerian who had naturalised carrying an American passport was also asked to pay the said $90. He too asked them why the $90 was not stated on the website. They claimed it was handling charges, whereas on website, $20 out of the official $180, was stated as transaction charge,” he said.

He noted that the reason given for the additional $90 hidden charge was not plausible, not cogent and something that was shockingly indefensible.

“When you are paying for an  in Nigeria, you pay to GTB. Afterwards, you donAmerican visa’t have another financial transaction with the embassy in Nigeria. I expected that the Nigerian embassy after charging the $180 they would not charge you another amount,” he added.

The source lamented that the officials at the consulate do not give Nigerians preference, as it is the norm in other countries’ embassies around the world.

He claimed that officials demanded that he and wife pay $4 for using the computer at the embassy to write two letters requesting that his children be issued a Nigerian visa.

Ondo Women Protest Topless, Demand Sowore’s Release

In a unanimous decision, women in their numbers came together to demand for Omoyele Sowore release, somewhere in south-western part of Nigeria, the age group where ranging from 50 to 90 years old. They maintain that they were aggrieved after repeatedly hearing on radio, that application challenging his detention was rejected by justice N.E MAHA.
They were chanting release our son, as it was obvious in the inscriptions of some of the play card they were carrying.

However, some conservative scholars' have argued that the action of this old women may not have a pronounced effect now, but certainly ,a flaccid paralysis, confusion, elephantiasis and demise may come along with it in a short while, In midst of those who conspired against him and their children...

The old women strongly believed, Sowore omoyele who has contributed so much to the aspect being ignored by the government, such as, schools, pipe borne water and others, is not a criminal/terrorist and also warned against framing him up with heinous criminal charges. FreeSoworenow they say is the antidote for this action!
